Williams Fined In Justice Court

Joe Williams of Jordan appeared before the Justice Court of C.F. Wilson,
Tuesday afternoon on a charge of exhibiting a deadly weapon in a threatening
manner. Williams entered a plea of guilty and was fined $50 and sentenced to
ten days in the County jail. The sentence was suspended upon payment of the
fine.

According to the reports, the charge arose out of an altercation between Henry
W. Jessen and Joe Williams which started in the Hell Creek Bar between 4 and 5
p.m. on November 12.

Williams left the bar and went to his place of residence and alledgedly stated
he was going after a gun. Later Williams was seen pointing a rifle in the
direction of a pickup being driven by Jessen. Jessen left the pickup on main
street and went to meet Williams to attempt to get the rifle away from him.
Upon Jessens' approach, it was stated that Williams levered a cartridge into
the rifle and threatened him with it. Jessen wrestled the rifle away from
Williams and reported the incident to the Sheriff's office.

Joe Williams Dies In Auto Accident

Joe Williams, 46, died instantly Thursday morning at approximately 3:00 a.m. in
a one car accident 14 miles south of Jordan on Route 22.

The accident was discovered at approximately 4 a.m. by Ebert Stanton who was
heading south on route22. Stanton stopped and investigated and found Williams
dead, so he continued on to Cohagen and called Sheriff Vernon Fogle of Jordan.
Fogle notified the highway patrol in Miles City and Patrolman E.H. Metzenberg
and Sheriff Fogle investigated the accident.

It was concluded by Fogle and Metzenberg, that the Williams car went out of
control on a curve while heading north on route 22. The car left the right
hand side of the road, struck an approach, sailed through the air for 70 feet,
bounced again for another 70 feet where Williams was thrown from the car which
apparently passed over him and came to rest upon its wheels without
overturning.

The body was brought to Jordan by the Garfield Ambulance Service where it was
taken to the Graves Funeral Home in Miles City where funeral arrangements are
pending.

Williams is survived by his wife, Gertrude, his mother and several brothers and
sisters.
