Casanova Beverage Company Sells Its Soft Drink Div.
The Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Minnesota will purchase the soft drink division of the Casanova Beverage co., as of Monday, June 22, and will bottle these products in the Coca-Cola plant at Red Wing, Minn. The soft drinks will be distributed from a warehouse in Hudosn.
Casanova Beverage Co. will continue to serve this area in the distribution of liquor, Hamm's beer and Canada Dry mixes.

Raymond B. Casanova, 78, a retired businessman and a lifelong resident of Hudson, died unexpectedly Sunday morning, November 6, of a heart attack. He had attended Mass at St. Patrick's Catholic Church and was walking to the parking lot when he collapsed.
He was born in Hudson, April 27, 1910, the son of Joseph and Catherine Karras Casanova. He attended St. Patrick's Parochial School and was graduated from Hudson High School in the class of 1928.
After leaving high school, he went to work for his father at Casanova Bottling company on Coulee Road, a family business that had been established in 1896 as a brewery.
"As a child, Ray grew up with the business," said Casanova's son, Patrick, of Hudson. "He cleaned the stables, tended the horses and helped drive the team and wagons in distributing the beer to customers."
With the advent of Prohibition, the business turned to making bottling Coca-Cola and other soft drinks. After the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, the firm became a distributor of Hamm's beer, liquor and soft drinks.
After the death of his father, Ray and his brother, Leonard, operated the beverage company until 1972, when the business was sold.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the European theater of the war and returned to civilian life in 1946.
On September 19, 1946, he was married to Dorothy Alcorn in South St. Paul.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Patrick, Hudson, and Dr. Joseph Casanova of Glenwood Springs, Colorado; a sister, Katherine Baumgartner of Rosemount, Minneosta, and five grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial, November 9, St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Interment in the family lot in St. Patrick's Cemetery. O'Connell's Valley Funeral Home.
Preceding him in death were two brothers, Leonard J., in 1984, and Dr. John R., in 1985; two sisters, Agnes Ryan in 1968 and Christine L. Delmonico in 1977.
