Death

James P. Furr, age 82, resident of 2220 St. Rt. 314, died 8:06PM Tuesday in Shelby Memorial Hospital following an automobile accident. Born in Richie County, West Virginia, September 1, 1907 to the late Lorenzo and Grace Roberts Furr he had been a Shelby resident 55 years. Mr. Furr was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and had been employed at Empire-Detroit Steel Co. for 46 years retiring in 1971 and had driven a school bus 32 years for the Ontario School System. Survivors include his wife, Cora, whom he wed Dec. 24, 1926; 6 sons, James P. of Douglasville, Georgia; Wilbert W. of Galion; Lloyd L. of Shelby; Herbert H. of Galion; Richard E. of Shelby and Frederick R. of Shelby; 2 daughters, Mrs. William (Edna) Zeigler of Ontario and Mrs. Floyd (Jerry) Shaw of Shelby; 29 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Silva Rutan of Mansfield and Goldie White of Galion and other relatives. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers John and Clifford and 2 sisters, Mary and Bonnie. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday from the Barkdull Funeral Home. Rev. Steven L. Schag, his pastor, will officiate with interment in Mansfield Memorial Park.Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 3-5 and 7-9PM. Memorial expressions may be made to the American Cancer Society and left at the funeral home.
