Death

Cora L. Furr, age 84, former resident of 2220 St Rt 314, Shelby, died early Friday morning at Crestwood Care Center following a lingering illness. Born Aug. 12, 1909 in the Huntington, WV area, to the late Elmer & Arvilla (Warrick) Carpenter, she had been a Shelby resident for the past 66 years. Mrs. Furr was formerly employed with the Shelby Cycle Co., and had worked for Shelby Memorial Hospital as a nurses aid. Survivors include six sons and five daughters-in-law, James P. & Jerry Furr, Jr. of Douglasville, GA, Wilbert W. & Darcia Furr, Herbert H. & Kate Furr, all of Galion, Lloyd L. Furr of Johnsville, Richard E. & Barbara Furr, and Frederick R. & Jennifer Furr, all of Shelby; two daughters and sons-in-law, Edna & William Zeigler of Ontario, OH and Jerry & Floyd Shaw of Shelby; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband James P. Furr, Sr. Nov 21, 1989; one granddaughter, Linda Bikar; and twelve brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday from the Barkdull Funeral Home. Reverend Steven L. Schag of the Calvary Baptist Church will officiate with interment in Mansfield Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Memorial expressions may be made to Seltzer Park Playscape and left in care of the funeral home.
