Death
D. Otto Furr, 60 years of age, well-known Virginia horseman, died Fridey at the Blue Ridge Sanitarium, Charlottesville, after an illness of three months. He was known throughout Virginia for his fine stable of hunters and was a member of the Middleburg Hunt Club. He was frequently a judge at many of the horse shows in Virginia and Maryland and was regarded as one who had a keen knowledge of horses. Mr. Furr was born near Aldie and was the son of Mrs. Blanche Megeath Furr and the late Johnson Furr. He had spent most of his life in this section. Mr. Furr is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Smith Furr, a son, D. Otto Furr jr. and a daughter, Miss Betty Furr, all of Middleburg, and also by his mother and two sisters, Mrs. Virginia Furr Goode, of Aldie, and Mrs. Ed Smith, Sterling, Mr. Furr’s brother, Irving Furr died on the 22nd of October. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Middleburg and were conducted by the Rev. Spence Dunbar. Burial was in the Middleburg Cemetery. The active pallbearers were North Fletcher, Blakeley Lodge, Kemp Furlr, Carl Furr, E. L. Redmond and Roland Dawson. Honorary pallbearers included D. B. Smith, D. C. Sands, Edwin Reamer, Dabney Simpson, Frank Brittlebank, Dr. D. T. Saffer, Dr. H. A. Spitler, Harry J. Duffey, Dr. Herbert Howard, Johnnie Gayer, George Everhart, Bob Maddox, Ghorley Hatcher, Jack York, Don Hench, and Holger Bidstrup.Loudoun News, Leesburg, Virginia, November 6, 1947
