Death
HANOVER Robert Nelson Furr, 75, died peacefully at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2007, at his home. He was the loving husband of Marion Irene (Shultz) Furr, to whom he was married over 53 years. The funeral service to give thanks and to honor Nelson's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Irwin Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, with the Rev. Kenneth R.W. Reid and the Rev. Dan Thomas officiating. Viewings will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Mummerts Meetinghouse Cemetery, Hamilton Township, in Adams County. Military honors will be provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Nelson was born November 12, 1931, in Verona, Va., a son of the late Rolland Raymond and Bertha Virginia (Thompson) Furr. He retired in 1997 from Cam Industries in Hanover, where he was employed for over 30 years. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving as Corporal. He attended Hanover First Church of God. Nelson was a life member of McSherrystown Fish and Game and was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer. In addition to his wife, Nelson will be sadly missed by five sons, Robert N. Furr, Jr. and his wife, Faye, Jeffrey W. Furr and his wife, Tami, all of Hanover, Karl D. Furr and his wife, Lisa of Abbottstown, Gregory A. Furr and his wife, Jackie of Frederica, Del., and Rodney L. Lauchman and his wife, Sandy of Glenville; a daughter, Patsy Baker and her husband, Kenneth of Spring Grove; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard E., Cyrus W., and Raymond E. Furr; and two sisters, Helen L. Helmick and Shirley A. Smith. Nelson's pallbearers will be Nick Furr, Matthew Furr, Randy Wildasin, Rick Free, Jeff Stern, and Mike Henze.
