Death
Mrs. Bertha Thompson Furr, 63, died unexpectedly yesterday afternoon (Jan. 27, 1966). For the past several months she had made her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Paul J. Helmick of Verona. A native of Augusta County, she was born April 24, 1902, daughter of John C. and Mary Virginia (Furr) Thompson. Surviving are four sons, Richard E. of Rt. 6, Staunton, Robert N. of Hanover, Pa. and Raymond E. and Cyrus W. Furr of Staunton; two daughters, Mrs. Shirley A. Smith of Fairfield, and Mrs. Helen L. Helmick of Verona; one brother, George Thompson of Kentucky; two sisters, Mrs. Clara E. Ralston of Staunton and Mrs. John Whitt of Elizabeth City, N. C.; and 15 grandchildren. Her husband, Rolland Raymond Furr died in June, 1960. The funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock in the memorial chapel of Fred Henry Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. David F. Glovier. Burial will be in Emmanuel Episcopal Chapel Cemetery in Verona. Pallbearers will be the following nephews: Harold Furr Jr., Ernest Furr, Hugh Ralston, Paul Ralston, Elwood Ralston, John T. Ralston and Charles Ralston. The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus W. Furr of 419 Grubert Ave.The Daily News Leader, Staunton, Virginia, January 28, 1966
