Death
STAUNTON-Cyrus William "Bill" Furr, 63, of 419 Grubert Ave., died Thursday afternoon (July 8, 1993) in King's Daughters' Hospital. He was born on July 23, 1929, in Verona, a son of the late Rolland Raymond and Bertha Virginia Thompson Furr. Before retirement, he was employed by J. S. Mathers General Contractor. He was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict where he received the Korean Conflict where he received the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star, the United Nations Service Medal, the Occupation Medal (Japan) and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was also a member of VFW Post #2216 in Staunton. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruby Monroe Furr; a daughter, Deborah K. "Debbie" Furr of Swoope; two brothers, Robert N. Furr of Hanover, Pa., and Raymond F. Furr, of Staunton; a sister, Mrs. Shirley A. Smith of Staunton; a grandson; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard E. Furr, and a sisters, Helen L. Helmick. A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Henry Funeral Home chapel by Dr. Joseph Condro and the Rev. Otis Fisher. Burial will follow in Calvary United Methodist Church cemetery, Stuarts Draft. Active pallbearers will be Robert Powers, Hollis Arehart, Charles Smith, Roger Rosson, Joe Mawyer and Karl Furr. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Tichenour, Raymond Simmons, Eugene Hoover, Frank Noel, Adam Burket, Sidney Monroe, Don Bosserman, James Eads and Bruce Casiday. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Staunton-West Augusta County unit, c/o Mrs. John O.
