Per Chet Peter's Book: Joseph and Elizabeth went west with the other Deardorff's in their covered wagons and driving their stock. They arrived in southern Oregon in the fall of 1853 (25 Aug) and settled near Oakland, Douglas County, Oregon. They later moved to a ranch on Deardorff Creek near Roseburg in 1872. Joseph sold that ranch in 1893 and moved to Canyon City in Grant Co., Oreg. where he purchased a large ranch and where he lived the rest of his life. He applied for Donation Land in Umpqua County, Oregon (Claim #802) and secured 328 acres.
