Death

JOANNA, Dec. 5 — (Special) — Mrs. Bessie Furr Smith, 59, wife of Marvin F. Smith, died early this morning at the Joanna Memorial Hospital after several years of declining health. She was a native of Stanley County, North Carolina, but had made her home in Joanna for 45 years. She was a daughter of the late Henry C. and Abigail Hudson Furr. She was a member of the Joanna Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Mrs. W. E. Boyd and Miss Joyce Smith of Joanna; one son, Earl W. Smith of Greenville; one grandchild: one sister, Mrs. Essie Smith of Newberry, and three brothers, Thomas of Joanna and J. L. and P. C. Furr of Clinton. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p. m. Tuesday from Joanna Baptist Church by the Rev. James B. Mitchell, assisted by the Rev. Ben F. Jones. Interment will be in Rosemont Cemetery, Clinton. The body will be at the home until the hour of services.
