Death
NEW ALBANY, Miss.--- Mrs. Mary Ida Furr Whiteside, former Hickory Flat resident, died at 4:35 p.m. Monday at the home of her son, D. T. Whiteside in Myrtle following an extended illness. She was 98. Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Ebenezer Methodist Church near Hickory Flat with the Revs. W. V. Stokes and C. R. Schumaker officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with United Funeral Service in charge. Mrs. Whiteside was born at Holly Springs, and was a daughter of the late Caleb and Hester Knapp Furr. Her husband, J. M. Whiteside, Benton County landowner and farmer, died in 1935. She was a member of Ebenezer Methodist Church and was the oldest resident of Benton County. She leaves 145 descendants. Survivors include two sons, D. T. Whiteside of Myrtle and I. H. Whiteside of Ashland; six daughters, Mrs. M. L. Elliott of Water Valley, Mrs. Ora Wilbanks of Myrtle, Mrs. J. N. Hankins of Memphis, Mrs. Lena Goode, Mrs. George Mills and Mrs. D. E. Beal of Hickory Flat; 41 grandchildren, 81 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
