Death
CHARLOTTE - Mildred F. Carmichael, 91, of Charlotte, passed away on Friday, November 6, 2015 at Hospice of Union County. She was born May 26, 1924 in Stanly County to the late William and Florence Furr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Edward B. Carmichael; three sisters; and one brother. Mildred retired from Southern Bell after 33 years of service. She had a very big heart and enjoyed giving. Mildred is survived by nephew, Alton Broadway and wife, Peggy, of Harrisburg, NC; nephew, Melvin Carpenter and wife, Etta, of Ocala, FL; daughter, Martha C. James; three granddaughters; six great-grandchildren and several great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM, Monday, November 9, 2015 at Hankins & Whittington Chapel with Rev. Ron E. Nelson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest by her husband. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sharon Presbyterian Church, 5201 Sharon Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210, or to Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110.
