Notes
Death
Lucille Furr Stewart INDIAN LAND -- Mrs. Stewart, loving wife, mother and grandmother was born December 9, 1913 and died at her home in Indian Land, SC on October 9, 2007. Lucille was a devoted daughter to her parents Albert G. and Ada Dry Furr caring for them in their old age. As a young woman she worked side-by-side on the cotton farm with her dear husband Allen C. Stewart, Jr. They were happily married for 42 years from June 1946 until his death in 1988. She was a loving mother to her daughter Janice Mauney who lived with her and cared for her faithfully in the years preceding her death. She dearly loved her grandson Stewart who survives her along with her beautiful great-granddaughter Lacey Lucille Mauney. Lucille loved all her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her dear sisters, Laura Merritt of Charlotte, Helen Whitmire of Eutawville, SC, and dear brothers, Ray Furr of Charlotte and James Furr of Indian Land, SC. Dewey, Floyd, Louis, Ralph, Richmond Furr and Sarah Green predeceased her. Even as she worked on the farm, she also worked in the cafeterias at Quail Hollow and South Mecklenburg Schools and formed many treasured friendships there before her retirement. Lucille loved Pineville Church of the Nazarene where she became a member as a young woman. Her heart was always there especially in recent years as she was confined to her bed because of the frailty of her age. A special blessing in Lucille's last years was the companionship of her little dog Toby Joe who kept her company every day as Lucille lay in her bed. Her family loved her with all their hearts and will see her again one day in heaven because Lucille lived her life with Jesus in her heart; she is Home at last. The family appreciates the love and care shown to Lucille by her caregiver Elizabeth Cook and sends a special thank you also to Phyllis Walker of Hospice and Community Care, Rock Hill, SC. Memorials may be made to Pineville Church of the Nazarene CareCorp, 8614 Pineville-Matthews Road, Charlotte, NC 28226. Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2007 at McEwen Funeral Home, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210. Funeral will be at 4:00 p.m., Friday, October 12, 2007, also at McEwen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dewey Wise officiating. Burial at will follow at Harrison Methodist Church Cemetery.
