Death

Funeral services were conducted at 4 o’clock Sunday afternoon in Love’s Grove United Methodist Church, where she was a member, for Mrs. Gertie Mae Barbee Furr, 86, of Route 2, Stanfield, who died at her home Friday afternoon. Rev. Paul Bell, Rev. Kinney Wallace and Rev. Darrell Cook officiated and interment was in the church cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Mrs. Furr, a homemaker, was born September 5, 1896, in Stanly County and was a daughter of the late William and Tabitha Hartsell Barbee. She was married to Henry Lester Furr, who preceded her in death. Surviving are four sons, Claude W. Furr, Clegg Furr and Junior Furr, all of Stanfield, and Cecil Furr of Locust; a daughter, Mrs. Cora Barr of Albemarle; 28 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
