Death
Ted Dysard Furr, 85, of Hickory, went to be with the Lord January 30th, 2016 at Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley after a brief illness. Born November 2, 1930 in Stanley County, he was the son of the late Hubert and Bessie Furr. Mr. Furr was a member of Saint Luke’s United Methodist Church. His career took him from Stanley Knitting Mills, in Oakboro, NC, to J. P. Stevens in Hickory, NC. During his long career he worked for Temptation Hosiery and Ridgeview Mills. After retirement he was a courier for Catawba Valley Bank. He also served the United States in both the Airforce in peace time and the Army during the Korean War. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who had a gentle spirit and an easy going manner. Mr. Furr was a role model for others showing love and compassion for his family and those who he supervised at work. In later years he was a caregiver for his wife Peggy who suffered from Parkinson’s Disease. He truly displayed what it means to be a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his daughter Nikki Kozak and husband, David of Hickory; granddaughter Lindsay Kozak, also of Hickory; and Sister Judy Turner of Aquadale, North Carolina. In addition to his parents Mr. Furr is preceded in death by brothers J.C. Furr and Tommy Furr; and sisters Lavonne Love and Margaret Rogers. Memorial service will be held Saturday February 6th at 2 PM at Catawba Funerals & Cremations with pastor Mark Andrews officiating. Inurnment will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home from 1 to 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palliative Care Centers and Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Rd, Newton, NC 28658.Endnotes
