Death

Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Barbee Furr, 78, of West Main Street, Oakboro, a retired textile employee, were conducted at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon in Oakboro United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Rev. Jaunice Dunbar and Rev. William Faggart officiated and internment was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Furr died at 7:20 Saturday night in the Albemarle Unit of North Carolina Lutheran Homes. She was born July 29, 1900, in Stanly County and was a daughter of James and Ellen Burris Barbee. She was a member of the choir at Oakboro United Methodist Church, a member of the WSCS, and a member of the Oakboro Senior Citizens Club. Her husband, Hubert Furr, preceded her in death. Surviving are three sons, Ted D. Furr of Hickory and J.C. Furr and Tommy R. Furr, both of Oakboro; three daughters, Mrs. Lavonne Love of Fayetteville, Mrs. Margaret F. Rogers of Oakboro and Mrs. Judy F. Turner of Aquadale; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Denton of Raleigh and Mrs. Lottie Summers of Chaplin, South Carolina; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Jimmy Furr, Bill Love, Lonnie, Frank and Richard Mauldin and Howard Larsen. Arrangements were by Hartsell Funeral Home.
