Death
Larry Wayne Furr, Sr. 72, of Oakboro passed away on Monday, November 9,2020 at Atrium Health Stanly. Visitation will be held from 5-7PM on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Midland. A funeral service for Mr. Furr will be held at 2PM on Friday, November 13, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Midland officiated by Pastor Tom Gibbs and Rev. Larry Gainey. Burial to follow in the church cemetery. Larry was born August 27, 1948 in Stanly County to the late Roy Wilson Furr and Evelyn Fink Furr. He retired from the United States Army with 2 Purple Hearts and 2 Bronze Stars. He worked with the Royal Ambassadors for many years at the church and served as the Baptist Men’s Director at First Baptist Church of Midland. Mr. Furr was a devout Christian and he also enjoyed hunting. Mr. Furr is survived by his wife of 51 years Kathy Kinley Furr of the home; daughters: Hope Furr Cox (Rob) of Wilmington, NC, Kelly Furr Kerley (Tim) of Oakboro, NC; son: Larry Wayne Furr, Jr. of Rockwell, NC; grandchildren: Jessica Bodick (AJ) of Kannapolis, Andrew Neely (Tiffany) of Turbeville, SC, Emily Kerley of Oakboro, Dylan Furr of Oakboro; great-grandchildren: Evelyn Neely, Xander Bodick; sisters: Geraldine Fink of Mt. Pleasant, NC, and Carolyn Torrence of Stanfield, NC; and brother Ronald Furr of Oakboro, NC. He is preceded in death by sister Shirley Eudy, and brothers Kenneth Furr, Tommy Furr, and Curtis Furr. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Midland at 4720 Garmon Mill Road, Midland, NC 28107. Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Locust is serving the Furr family.Endnotes
