Death
ALBEMARLE — Robert L. Furr, 78, retired Albemarle police chief, died Sunday night at 9 o'clock at the Hawthorne Center in Charlotte. He had been seriously ill for three weeks. A former sheriff of Stanly County and retired Albemarle police chief, Mr. Furr had been in police work from 1927 to 1961. He resigned as chief of police to accept the position of captain of criminal investigation work. He was born January 9, 1889, in Stanly County, son of W. M. and Margaret Greene Furr. He was married to Lula Honeycutt who died in 1962. A charter member of Parkway Methodist Church, he was on the official board of the church. He was also a member of the junior order of United American Mechanics. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Ray Austin of Norwood; one son, Thurman Furr of Albemarle; three grandchildren; three brothers, James A. Furr of Albemarle, Alma B. Furr of Charlotte, and L. M. Furr of Miami, Fla.; and one sister, Miss Elizabeth Furr of Albemarle. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Stanly Memorial Chapel by the Rev. S. L. Martin, pastor, and the Rev. Jackson Honeycutt. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.The Salisbury Post, Salisbury, North Carolina, November 20, 1967
