Death

NEW LONDON — Henry Martin Furr, 87, of Rt. 1 died at 12:15 a.m. today at the North Carolina Lutheran Home in Albemarle. The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at the New Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church. The body will be taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The Rev. Scott Owens, pastor, and the Rev. John Pless will officiate. Burial will be in New Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church cemetery. There will be a Masonic graveside service by Stanly Lodge No. 348. The body will be taken to the home of Mrs. Howard Watson on Concord Road, Albemarle, a daughter, at 3 p.m. Saturday. Memorials may be sent to the North Carolina Lutheran Home’s Albemarle unit. He was born March 28, 1890 in Stanly County to the late Jackson and Sarah Jane Harwood Furr. He was a retired brick mason and a member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church. He was a past chaplain of Stanly Lodge and a 25-year member of Woodmen of the World. He was married to the late Gracie May Shoe. Surviving are two sons, Martin Furr of New London and Allen Clifford Furr of Concord; two daughters, Mrs. Watson of Albemarle and Mrs. Gaither Drye of Concord; two half-sisters, Mrs. M. M. Barbee of Albemarle and Mrs. J. I. Hinson of Mooresville; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
