Death
Arthur James Furr, 81, of 1405 Pennington Road, Albemarle, died at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at his home. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Mountain View Baptist Church, where he was a member. The Rev. Jimmy Caines and The Rev. Ron Honeycutt will officiate and burial will be in Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors by Stanly County DAV Chapter 12.. Born Jan. 21, 1923, in Stanly County, he was a son of the late Paul DeBerry and Mattie Jane Page Furr and was retired machine shop supervisor for Wiscassett Mills. He served in the U.S. Army European Theatre in World War II in Northern France, the Rhineland and Ardennes. He received the EAMET Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. He was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Ray Furr; two brothers, John Furr and Junior Furr; and three sisters, Bertha Speights, Dora Helms and Bessie Almond. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Allene Andrews Furr of Albemarle; a daughter, Barbara Burnett of Badin; three grandchildren, Jann Mills Sherrie Harrington and Wesley Cates; and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle.Military
