Road Crew, Augusta Co, 19 Nov 1746. Road from Adam Harmon's to the River. Adam Harmon overseer. Workers included Israel Lorton and son, Jacob Harmon and three sons, Valentine Harmon, etc.


Israel Lorton lived near the Harmon's and his wife's name was Rachel. They are the likely candidates for parents of Sarah and her brother Jacob.

An illustration from Kegley's, The New River of Virginia in Pioneer Days, 1745-1800, Vol. I, shows William Preston's subdivision for settlers in 1754 - some 7500 acres at a place called "Draper". Jacob Lorton and Jacob Harmon, Jr. had adjoining properties.

Michael & Augustine Price vs. Lorton and Patton. July 1748, Prices agreed with Israel Lorton to purchase land on New River. Lorton bought three tracts from James Patton: one of 400 acres at mouth of Jones (Toms) Creek, where Lorton entered and improved, called Lorton's First Improvement; second was 400 acres at HorseShoe Bottom, called Lorton's Second Improvement; third, 400 acres at Beaver Dam. Prices bought the first two tracts. No. 1 is in possession of Michael Price & Philip Horloes; No. 2 in possession of Augustine Price and his brothers, Daniel and Henry. Bill filed, 1751 - amended bill filed, but Israel Lorton died, and bill for revivor. Jacob Lorton and Jacob Harmon, Lorton's administrators.
