Individual Details
Rebecca Harmon
(Ca 1762 - 1819)
This is the family of researcher Lou Poole. We carried on an extensive email correspondence concerning the Harmon and related families.
Rebecca married (1) Thomas Maxwell and (2) John Hays.
Thomas Maxwell, was killed by Indians in 1782. Thomas was a Lieutenant at the Battle of Kings Mountain.
Rebecca married Maxwell likely about 1778. Apparently only two daughters were born to this couple, or at least only two survived - a land patent was issued to Mary and Sarah Maxwell. One of these daughters was Sarah A. Maxwell, born 23 May 1781, according to the Drew family Bible - Sarah married Newitt Drew, 7 Jul 1799, Wilson Co, TN. It is believed she was the younger of the two sisters.
Given the dates above, and the continuation of "Harmon" as a given name among the descendants of Rebecca, plus a number of interactions between the Maxwell and Harmon families, has led to the strong possibility Rebecca was indeed a member of the New River Harmon family. The most likely place is in this family, primarily because of later LDS baptisms that suggest one of her sons, Harmon Hays, was apparently baptized by proxy by his relative Taylor Crosby.
