Individual Details
Frederick RABOIN
(4 Feb 1874 - 1 Nov 1940)
Birth month and year from 1875 New York State Census (dated 18 June 1875); Frederick's age given as one year and four months.
Haven't yet found marriage record, but the Menominee County Journal (19 June 1897) had this strange entry: "Rick Raboin, whom everybody knows to be a man of his word, now comes out with the statement that he has been married for the past four months. The boys don't approve of keeping such things secret and may retaliate in some unexpected manner."
MCJ, 21 Aug 1897: "Rick Raboin and Willie LaComb departed for different points on the 'Soo' railroad this week."
Menominee County Journal (9 Nov 1901) states: "Rick Raboin, Jr., who has been out west for the past five years, visited with friends and relatives here a couple of days this week."
1930 Federal Census lists a Frederick Raboin somewhat fitting his description, living in a logging camp in Sagala Twp., Dickinson Co., Michigan (Sup. Dist. 1, Enum. Dist. 22-17, dated 18 April). The given age is 58 -- two years off from our Frederick. Also, the marital status is listed as single. Considering the seemingly mysterious nature of his wedding, the rather "precipitate" birth of their child, and the departure of Frederick for the west shortly BEFORE her birth, it seems to have been an ill-fated marriage.

Birth date on this record is clearly wrong (2 Feb 1883), but the place (Fort Edward, NY) and the father, Derrick Raboin, match. The death certificate (ordered by Richard Swymeler) states that his body was removed (as opposed to buried or cremated) on 2 Nov 1940 to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Perhaps donated to science research?
