Dewey Kirkpatrick was born 2 August 1902 at Houston, Chickasaw County, Mississippi and died 12 October 1985 in Mobile, Mobile County, Alabama. On 23 September 1923 he married Bessie Ott, daughter of John Thomas and Uranna (Mott) Ott, in Mobile, Alabama. She was born 20 April 1896 in Campbell, Clarke County, Alabama and died 21 January 1972 in Mobile, Alabama. Dewey was a grocer.

He was the manager of the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. at Broad and Savannah streets during the 1930's and later became assistant superintendent for the Mobile area. Kirkpatrick later owned and operated his own grocery store at Mertz Station. Kirkpatrick, a member of Dauphin Way United Methodist Church, was a native of Houston, Miss., and came to Mobile in 1919. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Doris Lawshe and Mrs. Jeanette Rowell, both of Mobile; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Lillie Tackette of Mobile; nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Radney Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dauphin Way United Methodist Church. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the Dauphin Way United Methodist Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. E. C. (Doris) Lawshe, Jr. and Mrs. Milton L. (Jeanette) Rowell, Sr., both of Mobile, AL; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and other relatives. Funeral services will be held from Dauphin Way United Methodist Church on Tuesday, October 15, 1985 at 11 a.m. with interment in Pine Crest Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home between 6 p.m. till 8 p.m. Monday. Mr. Kirkpatrick will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services. Funeral arrangements by Radney Funeral Home, Dauphin St. Extension, Mobile.
