Nova Lou Ritter

Nova Lou Ritter was born 24 November 1904 and died 16 January 1994. She attended Mississippi State Teachers' College (now the University of Southern Mississippi), and did graduate work at the University of Chicago. She taught in the Aberdeen, Monroe County, Mississippi school system for twenty-two years. She was a charter member of the Phi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, the teachers' honor society, and was a member of the TEPS, a committee composed of members of the Mississippi Education Association for promoting professional standards among teachers. She also served on the textbook rating committee for Mississippi schools for several years. She was selected by the Federated Women's Clubs of Aberdeen for their award as Aberdeen's Teacher of the Year for 1958-1959. She was a member of the Aberdeen First Baptist Church. She never married.

ABERDEEN -- Nova Lou Ritter, 89, retired teacher for the Aberdeen School System, died Sunday at Aberdeen-Monroe County Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Lann Memorial Funeral Home with burial in Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery. A graduate of Mississippi Southern College in Hattiesburg, she was a charter member of Delta Kappa Gamma-Phi Chapter and Teachers Honor Society. She was also awarded the 1958-59 Teacher of the Year by the Federated Women's Clubs of Aberdeen and was a member of Aberdeen First Baptist Church. She leaves a sister, Annabel Ritter of Aberdeen. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be sent to Aberdeen First United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
