Augustus Houston Ritter

Augustus Houston Ritter, known as Houston Ritter, was born 10 November 1895, the eldest child of Stephen David and Sallie Amnice (Kirkpatrick) Ritter, and died 11 July 1986. He married Helen Keller Clayton, who was born 23 August 1899 and died 15 July 1988. Both Houston and Helen graduated from Mississippi State Teachers' College (now the University of Southern Mississippi).

Houston was a veteran of World War I. Following the war he taught in the Monroe County, Mississippi, school system for ten years. He later became Superintendent of Schools in Becker, Monroe County, Mississippi. After leaving this position he managed the Monroe County Electric Power Association, the first REA (Rural Electrification Administration) county association in the nation, and still later he established his own electric business in Amory. Houston was active in civic, community and county affairs in Amory and Monroe County, Mississippi.

Helen was a teacher in the Becker school system and in the Amory, Mississippi school systems.

There was one child born of the marriage.
