New Castle News, New Castle, Pennsylvania, Tuesday, September 30, 1952, Page 2, Col. 3: Howard Manning Kirk, Sr. Howard Manning Kirk, Sr., aged 84 years of 403 East Moody avenue, president of the Kirk, Hutton and company, died suddenly in his home, Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock.
Mr. Kirk, a resident here all his life was also well known as treasurer of the company, 24 East Washington street. He had been in the hardware business for the past 67 years at the same location, succeeding his father who started the business in 1861.
Mr. Kirk was born in Mahoningtown, August 14, 1868, son of Henry M. and Margaret Sample Kirk. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church and was also active in church., civic and business affairs in this community. His wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Raney Kirk preceded him in death two years ago.
Surviving are his children: Mrs. Helen McAfee, Newark, N. J., Dr. Elizabeth Rose, Philadelphia, Pa.; Leander R. Kirk, Plainfield, N. J.; Howard M. Kirk, Jr., this city, and Rev. William H. Kirk, New York City. He leaves a brother, Harris Kirk of Bozeman, Montana; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in his late residence, 403 East Moody avenue, with Dr. Robert F. Galbreath, of the First Presbyterian church in charge. Burial will be in Oak Park cemetery.
The body was removed from the Campbell funeral home to the residence, where friends may call anytime after 1 p.m. today.
