Oelwein Daily Register, Oelwein, Iowa, Monday, March 26, 1945, Page 6, Col. 2: Edward John Neuman, son of Gustav and Ida Neuman, was born June 22, 1922 in Fayette county, Iowa. In early infancy he was baptized in the name of the Triune God. He attended St. John's Lutheran School and, after having been instructed in the chief parts of Christian doctrine, he was received into membership of the Lutheran church by the act of confirmation.
He entered the service of our country, March19, 1943 and after he had finished his training in this country, served overseas in France. He was a member of the 5th Ranger Inf., Bn., of the Third Army under General Patton. He received the Purple Heart, for he was wounded in action twice. He was killed in action Dec. 2, 1944 in France and is buried in Alsace, France.
He was united in marriage with Elsie Pettit of Traer, Iowa in February 1943. This union was blessed with one son. He reached the age of 22 years, 5 months, and 10 days.
He leaves to mourn his departure, his sorrowing widow, Mrs. Elsie Neuman of Traer, Iowa; his infant son, Gary Edward; his mother, Mrs. Ida Neuman of Oelwein; four brothers, Fred and Albert of Oelwein; Emil and Water of Waterloo; four sisters, Tillie Hultz, of Jesup; Mrs. Esther Kraft of Fairbank; Mrs. Martha Reiner of Oelwein; and Mrs. Wilma Hake of Lake Mills, Wis. Besides many other relatives and friends.
