Oelwein Daily Register, Oelwein, Iowa, Tuesday, December 26, 1939, Page 5, Cols. 4 & 5: Gustav John Neuman, son of John Neuman and his wife Emilie, nee Schultz, was born December 29, 1870 in Germany. In infancy he was baptized in the name of the Triune God, and later, after having been instructed in the chief parts of Christian doctrine, he was received into membership with the Lutheran church, by the act of confirmation. When he was twenty-one years of age, he came to American and settled on a farm in Fayette county, about three and one-half miles north of Fairbank, where he spent the remainder of his life. He joined the St. John's Lutheran church as a young man and has been a faithful member until his death.

He was united in marriage with Ida Kunde November 24, 1907, at Fairbank. This union was blessed with nine children, five sons and four daughters. His illness began about two years ago, and became very painful at times, especially during the last weeks of his life. He departed this life Dec. 16, 1939, at 12:00 M., in the University hospital at Iowa City at the age of 69 years, 11 months and 17 days.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife; five sons, Emil, of Waterloo; Fred. Fairbank; Albert, Oelwein; Walter, Fairbank, and Edward, at home; four daughters, Mrs. Matilde Hultz, Jesup; Mrs. Esther Kraft, Fairbank; Mrs. Martha Reisner, Oelwein, and Wilma, at home; two brothers, Edward Shultz, of Marnette, Wis.; and Rudolph Neuman, Oelwein; nine grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 19 at 2:00 p.m. in St. John's Lutheran Church at Fairbank, Rev. H. J. Heilman, pastor, officiated. Burial was made in the Fairbank cemetery.
