1817 In Wilmer Bresee's study "In 1817, the Town of Davenport was created from the older towns of Kortright and Maryland. At the first town meeting on 8 April, John Bresee was designated a Pathmaster, second beat north of the Charlotte River." 1817 Per "Handmaidens of the Lord" page 13, a John Bresee was designated a Pathmaster, second beat north of the Charlotte River, by the first Town Meeting of Davenport, NY, on 8 April 1817. When the school board met a few weeks later for the purpose of forming a school district, the farm of Jeremiah Bresee (his brother?) formed a corner of the School District, Number Five, bordering the Charlotte River.
