Per the "History of the town of Stratford New Hampshire 1773-1925" by Jeannette R. Thompson, Marcus Johnson was a man of affairs in all matters connected with the business of the town of Stratford. He has been for long years an active and useful citizen, and worthy member of the Methodist church. He is an authority on lines and angles; can reproduce from memory a plot of nearly every lot in a wide radius, and is as vigorous as many men now in the prime of life; with an accurate memory, reaching through a long line of years, he is a treasure-house of information to the historian."
