James Madison Johnson

See the "History of the town of Stratford New Hampshire 1773-1925" by Jeannette R. Thompson which shows him as a mill owner in Stratford and moved to California in the '70's where he did business in lemon tree nurseries. This also shows his children.
1905 death is from the California Death Index showing he died in San Diego Co. on May 14th age 79 (born 1826).
1900 census shows him as age 74 (born 1826) living in National TWP, San Diego, CA with his son. Shows his father was born in Conn. and his mother was born in Mass.
1887 moved to San Diego and is listed in "San Diego pioneer families" in the San Diego Genealogical Society library 979.498 S194p on my trip their 23 April 2013.
1880 census shows him as age 54 (born 1826) a sash block manufacture, born in New Hampshire and who's father was born in Conn. and living with his wife Georgieanna and his children. They are living in Lancaster, Coos Co., NH.
1870 census shows him as age 44 (born 1826) a farmer living in Stratford,Coos Co., NH, with his wife Georgana age 39 along with their children. They were both born in New Hampshire but their first child was born in Vermont with the remaining children born in New Hampshire. A few doors away were his brothers Marcus and Elisha with their separate families.
1860 census shows him as age 34 (born 1826) a farmer living with Georganna Johnson age 30, Lada age 4 and James H. age 1 month. Also in the home is Lydia Johnson age 77 (must be his mother) who was born in Conn. and Priscella age 39 (must be his sister). The are living next to his brothers Marcus D. and Elisha in Stratford, Coos Co., NH.
