CHARLES D JOHNSON Son of Marcus D and Maria Marshall Johnson born Stratford June 13 1835 admitted 1858 practiced Stratford died there October 29 1860 Two years of law practice and one of journalism constituted the adult life work of Charles D Johnson Upon his admission to the bar he immediately started in his profession in North Stratford The next year the Coos County Democrat a weekly newspaper was removed from Lancaster to that place and put under the editorial charge of Mr Johnson Before the close of another year consumption had numbered him among her victims
1860 census shows him as age 25 (born 1835) a lawyer living with his wife Emma M. age 20 in Stratford, Coos Co., NH. He was born in NH. Living not far away were his mother, father and grandmother. The 28 Oct. 1860 death date is from film #1001087 @ FHC "Death Index for New Hampshire" which showed him as an attorney at law, born in Stratford and his father as Marcus D. Johnson and his mother as Margaret M. Johnson.
1858 was admitted to the bar in November 1858, commenced practice in North Stratford, but soon died, per the "History of Coos County, New Hampshire" by Georgia Drew Merrill page 775.
1850 census shows him as age 15 (born 1835) living with his parents Marcus D. Johnson age 44 and Maria Johnson age 45 in Stratford, Coos Co., NH and born in New Hampshire.
1840 census shows him living with his father, Macus D. Johnson, age 30-40 in Stratford, Coos Co., NH, with 3 male children age 5 and under (this group would then have included him and his brothers George and Guy), 1 male child age 5-10 (John Jay Johnson), 1 female age 10-15 (unknown child) and 1 female age 30-40 (this would have been his mother, Maria Marshall). Living next door was Elisha Johnson, his grandfather, age 50-60 with his family.
