Bob graduated from Clearfield High School, class of 1938. He served in the C.C.C. in 1939 in the state of Arizona. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy soon after "Pearl Harbor" and fought in most of the naval battles of the south Pacific aboard the U.S.S. Denver, his ship being torpedoed twice and hit once with a Kamikaze aircraft. He was a Machinist Mate Petty Officer 2nd. class. After the war he worked as a pattern maker and later as a boiler inspector. His hobbies were furniture making, hunting, fishing, and he was a master gardener.
