Whereas I Obediah Wingo Spartanburg District (County, SC), being old and infirm but in perfect mind and memory & being in blest with a moderate share of the goods of this world do deem it my duty to dispose of them in the following manner viz; I first recommend my soul to God & my body to the dust from whence it came and then my property as follows viz;
My eldest child was Willes who is dead and to whom I have gave 110 acres of land and one negro together with sundry other things which I conceive is more than I can give the rest, therefore say no more for him; the second is Thomas to whom I have gave a horse saddle and bridle, I therefore say no more for him; the third was William to whom I have gave his saddle and bridle, together with other sundry things and therefore no more for him; the forth was Polly, now Polly Ballinger, to whom I have gave her a negro girl together with sundry other things therefore say no more for her; the fifth was Sally Hays to whom I have gave $270 in consequence of her land I gave her together with sundry other things this her part and no more; the sixth was Wiley to whom I gave a horse saddle & bridle together with sundry other things, to whom I conceive to be his part and no more for him; the seventh was Simpson to whom I gave a horse saddle and bridle together with sundry other things which I conceive to be his share and no more for him; the eighth was Jessy to whom I gave a horse saddle & bridle together with sundry other things to which I conceive to be his share and no more for him. The above eight children was the eight that I had by first wife, to wit Ony (Oney) Wingo formerly Ony Seay, which considering my circumstances thank they have all received - in learning and other things as much as I can do for the ballance.
The first child I had by my second wife was Robert to whom I gave a young mare but no saddle and bridle to which my will is that he have a saddle and bridle out of my property and that Nancy, Obediah, Meriah, Elizabeth, Rebecka (Rebecca), Arecfsus (Augus?) and Iram (Iran)all receive a horse saddle and bridle as they become of age or marriage, or at least within 12 months from said time if not convenient sooner, vis. The above eight children on this side is the eight that I had by Obediance Wingo formerly Obedience Ligon to which they have not received in proportion to the first eight, therefore after death I wish and my will is that the whole of my property after the death of my wife if any share should be after the above appropriation is made to my unprovided children; their education at the discretion of my executors as they may find the property to hold out and furthermore my will is that my beloved wife Obediance to hold and enjoy all the remainded of my property both real and personal that remains after paying the above requisition required by me in my will, as above stated, during her natural life or widowhood and after death or marriage whole of my property if any share I hold be after paying all debts and legacies that is above stated, to be divided between my eight children to wit Robert, Nancy, Obediah, Mariah, Elizabeth, Rebecka, Arufsus & Iram the eight last mentioned children that I had by my last wife to have share and share about as my executors may think fit so that it may be considered that after all expenses in raising and educating the seven remaining children that remains with me, or as many as there should be after my death and furthermore let it be well understood that the last eight children do receive at the death of my wife all the unexpended property both real and personal and after reading the above with every rational consideration do sigh this my last will revoking all other wills heretofore made either verbally or in writing do declare this to be my last will and testament and that I do appoint my beloved wife Obedience to be my executrix and Robert Ligon my executor act and transact all and singular every thing relating to my affairs, agreed to and signed this 30th April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty four in presence of , Obediah Wingo (seal) [4/30/1824], Wit.
