OBITUARY
Mrs. Joseph Bane
Mary Foster was born in Wash-
ington Co., Pennsylvania, March 9th, 1817;
died Dec. 1, 1898, aged 81 years, 8
months, and 33 days.
At the age of nine years she
moved with her parents into the
wilds of Virginia, now West Vir-
ginia, and grew to womanhood amid
all the hardships and privations of a
life on the frontier. Being the
eldest of a family of eleven children
she early learned to have the care of
the young members of the family,
developing in her anxious care
for the welfare of others which
clung to her through life.
Dec. 7, 1837, she was united in
marriage with Joseph Bane to which
union there were eleven children
born, three of whom died in infancy.
Of the eight who grew to maturity
but three remain: Mrs. E. P. Jones
of Minonk, at whose home she died;
Mrs. P. A. Martin also of Minonk,
and M. M. Bane of Dana. She also
leaves one brother - John Foster, of
Eureka, two sisters - Hannah Munell,
of Wheeling, West Virginia, and Nancy
Munell, of Bismark, Vermillion Co.,
Illinois, besides eight grandchildren and
three great grandchildren.
She united with the church of
Christ in her youth, and has lived a
life of humility and trust. Although
being deprived of attending meet-
ings in public worship on account of
failing health, for years she always
took great comfort in reading the
sacred word.
Interment was made in the Dana
cemetery Dec. 3, her body being
conveyed by train from Minonk to
Dana. Funeral services were con-
ducted by Rev. Moon of the Baptist
church of Minonk in the Christian
church of which she was a charter
member. The house was packed to
the fullest capacity with sympathiz-
ing friends. Mrs. Bane was loved
by all who knew her and was called
Aunt Mary Bane by everybody.
