Obituary
Elder Joseph Bane died very suddenly
of heart disease at his residence, Wed-
nesday afternoon about 4 o'clock. He
had been in poor health all spring, and
was under the treatment of Dr. Wilcox
for a complication of diseases. Although
he could not speak for the past fortnight
and mostly confined to bed, it was sup-
posed he was gradually getting stronger,
and was able occasionally to get out of
bed. However, the Doctor forbad any
excitement or exertion, from the treach-
erous nature of the disease. About one
o'clock on Wednesday his brother Mor-
decai arrived from Kansas. He got up
and remained out of bed some time, but
getting weaker he went back to bed, and
in about ten minutes he passed away al-
most without a struggle. He was born
in Greene County, Pennsylvania, August
9th, 1818. When quite young he moved
to Marshall county, W. Virginia, where he
lived several years and got married. He
next moved to Ohio, living there three
years, and moving to Cruger in 1858 and
to Dana in 1865. (Next week probably a
fuller sketch will be given.) The funeral
services will be held at the church Fri-
day, and the remains interred in Dana
cemetery.
Additional notes:
Moved to Marshall County at the age of 9. In the spring of 1855 he removed to Monroe County, Ohio where he lived for 3 years. In 1858, he came West, living the first summer at Washington, Tazewell County, when he moved to Woodford County, near Cruger, where he remained until the spring of 1865, when he purchased and moved on to the farm East of Dana.
Two additional newspaper clippings of obituaries are included in Presley Martin's journal on Pages 246, and 247.
