Emigration
On the boat "Ruapehu", sailing from Plymouth.She came out with her widowed mother and six siblings. Their fare was
257 pounds, 5 shillings for the passage. It was on this passage that
she met her husband, John Bilton GORDON.
Marriage
At St. Mary's Pre-Cathedral, Auckland.John had originally emigrateds to New Zealand in 1882 but had returned
to England in 1884 to see his mother who was ill. It was on the boat
on his return to New Zealand in 1885 that he met Gertrude, who was
emigrating to New Zealand with her widowed mother and six siblings.
Gertrude was the sister of Mildred GORDON (nee CHALLIS) who maried
Stephen Charles GORDON.
Property
Bought the school in partnership with Miss Amy HULL, the successor toMrs Mary Ellen CLAYTON (nee NEWTON) (Mrs CLAYTON was Gertude's aunt.)
