Mrs. Ardella Taylor, 76, of Grinnell, IA, a former resident of Brooklyn, IA, died Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at Friendship Manor Care Center, Grinnell, IA.
Funeral Services for Ardella Taylor were held at 10 AM Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn, IA. Her son, Rev. Kenneth Taylor officiated and the musician was Marilyn Kriegel. Casket-bearers were Raymond Taylor, James Taylor, Kenneth Taylor, Emmett Taylor, Leslie Taylor, Nathan Taylor, William Taylor, Jason Taylor, Mark Leichtman and Joshua Poland. Interment followed in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.
Margery Ardella McSherry Taylor, daughter of Charles Willard McSherry and Alma Belle Breniman McSherry, was born August 29, 1926, near Brooklyn, Iowa.
Ardella received her education in Brooklyn graduating from high school in 1943. She was married to John William Taylor on August 29, 1945, at Ottumwa, Iowa. They lived at Guernsey from 1945 to 1965 when they moved t o Brooklyn. Ardella was a homemaker and she and John owned and operated Taylor Insurance. Mr. Taylor died May 1, 1974. Later she sold the insurance business and moved to Grinnell in 1977. She then worked for Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Since April 2000 Ardella has been a resident of Friendship Manor.
Mrs. Taylor was a member of the Methodist Churches at Guernsey, Brooklyn, and Grinnell. She was a member of Holly Chapter #477 OES, United Methodist Women and a Garden Club. Ardella was a 4-H leader, taught Sunday School for many years and sang in the choir. She played the organ at Sheridan United Methodist Church.
Her parents, her husband, a son Richard, a sister Elizabeth Terrilliger and brother Frederick McSherry preceded her in death.
Surviving are one daughter, Barbara Taylor of Cedar Rapids; four sons and their wives, Raymond and Becky Taylor of Cedar Rapids, James and Linda Taylor of Phoenix, Arizona, Kenneth and Marty Taylor of Miami, Florida; and Emmett and Michelle Taylor of St. Paul, MN; one brother, Stewart McSherry of Denver, Colorado; one sister, Mary Frances James of Longmont, Colorado; 10 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
