Notes
Death
Complications of tuberculosis.Death
Minnie died of tuberculosis.Minnie's body was returned to Brooklyn, Iowa, from Ft. Collins, Colorado for burial. Her obituary in the Brooklyn Chronicle was very long and detailed. A few excerpts from the obituary are as follows:
"Eighteen years ago Mrs. Breniman had a very severe illness from which she never fully recovered. Two years ago her health began to fail fast and she was persuaded to try Colorado and accompanied by her son, Frank she went to Manitou Springs, Colo. One year ago Frank, having bought a farm near Fort Collins, she went to live with him. Last fall Mr. Breniman rented his farm and he and the other members of the family went to Colorado and made their home in Fort Collins. The best physicians of Denver were consulted and all that medical skill and loving hearts and willing hands could do to save her life was done, but in vain. Consumption had fastened on her vitals and on the evening of July 10, her spirit took it's flight to God who gave it"
"Mrs. Breniman never saw a well day in the past eighteen years, but none but her most intimate friends ever knew anything of this. She was always the same uncomplaining, cheerful, gracious woman, the life of the company where ever she was. There was perhaps not a home in a radius of several miles that she had not in some way contributed to it's happiness or comfort. Not only will her loss be felt in the social circle, but the church and Sunday School has lost one of their most valuable workers."
"But her loss will be felt most of all in her home. She was almost idolized by her children. No words can portray to you the love and devotion shown by the husband and children to this beloved wife and mother during her long and painful illness the last two months. During this time her daughter Eda never left her for more than a few moments at a time, sometimes catching a few moment's sleep sitting by her mother's side and holding her hand. They were more like two loving sisters rather than mother and daughter. The sons, although going to school, came home several times each day to see how mother was."
"Her aged father and mother were unable to attend the funeral on account of failing health and two brothers, one in Kansas and the other in Nebraska, were unable to be here."

Burial
Minnie's obituary states that "on Sunday night the family arrived at Brooklyn (from Ft. Collins) with the body where they were met by a large number of sympathizing friends who accompanied them to the place that had been their home for thirty years. The funeral was held the next day. At the cemetery the Woman's Relief Corps of Brooklyn took charge and at the close of their beautiful and impressive service, the body was laid to rest by the side of her little girl who had preceded her to the better world. The funeral was the largest ever held in this community. The regard in which she was held as a friend and neighbor was shown by the large number in attendance at the funeral, many coming from a long distance."Endnotes
