"John Watts enlisted in 1776 and served as a private in Captain Joseph Spencer's company. He was discharged from service 19 February 1778." (Affidavit of Elijah Watts and Mahala (Watts) Austin, children of John Watts, made 2 October 1846 in Randolph County, Missouri from John Watts Revolutionary War Pension File.)

"John Watt's will found in Albemarle County, Virginia, dated 15 July 1823 (Will Book 7, page 312). Material from National Archives has affidavit by Ira Garrett in Albemarle County. At a court held on 6 July 1846 he states that John died in September 1836 leaving a widow who emigrated to Missouri after his death. It also gives the date of death of Lucy. That same material states that John was born in Orange County, Virginia and moved to Albemarle after the Revolutionary War. The affidavit: "The Court doth certify that satisfactory evidence has this day been established to said court that John Watts of Albemarle County (formerly of Orange) Virginia who was once refuted to have been a Revolutionary soldier." Marriage date is also in this material. Archives material lists same children as in will." (WATTS - HAMMACK GENEALOGY, by Gloria O. Palmer, 135 Northridge Drive, Grass Valley, California 95845, 1994.) His will was probated October 1823, Will Book 7, page 312 - Albemarle County, Virginia.
