"James Greer loved nature and land. He came into the Chickasaw Indian lands years before the government treaty. He traded two ponies for the land he could walk off in a days time." (Information from Elizabeth Greer will, DeSoto County, Mississippi Probate Records; Children marriage in DeSoto County; and Mrs. Barby C. Ladd, 2302 Johnston Road, Hernando, MS 38632; and found in "Greer Kinsmen" by J. B. Bell.) Dr. Clayton Alvis gives James Greer's place of death as Lowndes County, Mississippi.
