"Henry Greer to son, John W. Greer, Deed of Gift, date 17 February 1829. Land west in district of Choctaw containing 80.31 acres. Annis Greer, signed. John Welborne was in Sevier County, Arkansas on the 1850 census. He came to Texas and is the ancestor of Mrs. Joe Cook of Eustace, Texas." (MY GREER LINEAGE, 1992, by Mary Lee Barnes, page 45.)

1850 Sevier County, Arkansas census: John W. GREER, m, 44, planter $5000, Georgia; Catherine GREER, f, 33, Tenn; Nancy L. GREER, f, 19, Miss; Sarah M. GREER, f, 5, Ark.

(NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: It appears, from these census records, that John W. Greer married and had at least two children. Sarah, born fourteen years after Nancy, is probably from a second marriage to Catherine.)
