"Joe, not Joseph ... 1st wife unknown, had son Kenneth, daughter Mary, son Jay. 2nd wife - Alma. Alma already had a son, but no children with Joe. Joe and Alma were living in Shreveport, Louisiana in the 1930's to at least 1942. He was a painter and later moved to Orange, Texas where he was living when he died." (John A. Hammond, Edmond, Oklahoma, 1996.) (NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: According to John A. Hammond of Edmond, Oklahoma, Joe Hammond was never called "Joseph." However, he is listed on the 1900 census in his father's household and called "Joseph.")
"My wife is the great granddaughter of Joseph "Joe" Hammond (1886 - 1974) shown in your tree. Should note that your tree is missing several of his children (total of 7) that can be found in the 1930 census in Shreveport. His wife Margaret died shortly after the 1930 census was taken and Joe abandoned all the children. Two of the daughters ended up at the Genevieve orphanage including my wife's grandmother, Ruth. The youngest, Calvin, was adopted by Margaret's maternal uncle, but died in 1931, Many of the surviving children were reconciled with Joe later in life." (Paul Wright, 2011.)
