"Dan Hammonds - A letter from one of his relatives advises of the death of Dan Hammond at Ponchatula, Louisiana on November 22nd. He was for many years a citizen of this county. At his bedside was his weeping wife and sorrowing children, all of those now living except Mrs. Kate Ellis of Stephenville, Texas and it was a consolation to them when he said he was prepared to go and was not afraid to die. The deceased is survived by his widow and three sons and four daughters, Harmon of Lacome, Louisiana, Joe of Shreveport and William of New Texas, and Mrs. Ida Hanson, Mrs. Timore Mixon, and Mrs. May Stranga, all of Louisiana and Mrs. Ellis of Texas." (THE SOUTHERN STANDARD, Arkadelphia, Arkansas, 2 December 1923.)

"Daniel's death certificate gives his father's name of Charles Hammond. It also shows his date and place of birth as 14 April 1850 in Mobile, Alabama. He married Mary (Mollie) A. Pitman, about 1875 in Rayville, Louisiana. He died at Bedico (Ponchatoula), Louisiana, November 22, 1923, buried at Ponchatoula. The informant of the death certificate was William Hammond." (John Hammonds, Edmond, Oklahoma, 1996.)

(NOTE FROM RALH TERRY: The IGI shows Daniel Irvin Hammond, born 14 April 1847 in Salmer, Alabama, to Charles Hammond and Mary Lard. According to Harmon Hammond's grandsons Richard Hammonds and Gaylen Hammond, this information was probably entered into IGI records by one of Harmon's last wives, who was a Mormon. This appears to be incorrect information, as this birth year is inconsistant with the census records, and I have not been able to find a marriage record to a Mary Lard for Charles Hammond. Possibly Mary Lard was his first wife rather than Eliza Darling, but I have no proof either way.)

John Hammond of Edmond, Oklahoma shows the middle name of "Irving" for Daniel. The 1910 census shows "D. H.")

(NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: There was another Daniel Hammonds, "Daniel M. Hammonds," who located in Clark County, Arkansas. Both Daniel Hammonds were found in Clark County on the 1880 census, one age 29 and one age 30, and both had wives named Mary. Daniel M. Hammond(s) and his wife, Mary Frances Hammond gave land for the Clear Springs Christian Campground in 1886. Daniel M. Hammonds was in the Okolona area. I have not found any relationship between this group of Hammond(s) and ours.)
