John Hammonds
(November 4, 1879 - January 2, 1922)
FAG 6632613
"John Hammond ... I don't believe was ever married. He was born November 4, 1876 and died January 2, 1922. He and my father (William Marvan) were very close and when I was born in 1926, I was named for John who died in 1922." (John Hammond, Edmond, Oklahoma, 1996.)
"John Hammonds; born November 4, 1879; died January 2, 1902; buried at Copeland Ridge Cemetery, which is located 4 1/2 miles east of Curtis, Arkansas." (CLARK COUNTY, ARKANSAS CEMETERY RECORDS, by the Extension Homemakers Council, 1983, page 118.)
(NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: John says his uncle John died in 1922, but when Judia and I visited Copeland Ridge Cemetery in 1996, the stone reads, "John, son of D. & Mary Hammonds, born Nov 4, 1879, died Jan 2, 1902." It appears John Hammond of Edmond, Oklahoma is incorrect, as the year of 1876 disagrees with the 1880 and 1900 census records and John's tombstone. The death year on the stone was 1902. The name recorded on the tombstone is "Hammonds.") John and his sister Mary's tombstones are almost identical in size, shape, and format.)
