"Mary Dean Tate, "Deanie", was the eighth child and the fourth daughter of Maude Poer and Ova Tate. She was born December 25, 1924 in Madison County, Kentucky. Deanie was very pretty with beautiful red hair. She left home when she was about fourteen years old to go to school in Berea. At the age of fifteen or sixteen she went to California to live with Mother's sister, aunt Flo, who financed her schooling. She returned to Kentucky after a couple of years. She loved flowers, birds and nature in general. Deanie was married first to Harry Stewart and later divorced. She went to Houston, Texas and married Dr. Tom VanZant whom she divorced. She was always sending money home to her parents and had a bathroom built onto the home place for them. Many years later she returned to Kentucky with an inoperable heart condition. She passed away April 14, 1994 in her home in Madison County, Kentucky." (MARY DEAN TATE, written by her brother, James David Tate.)
