Robert Allen Tate

"Bob was the seventh child and fourth son of Maude Poer and Ova Tate. He was born August 16, 1920 in Madison County, Kentucky. He had auburn hair. He was athletic and his main sport was tennis. He learned to play at Martin Richard's store where they had a tennis court. At one time Bob beat everyone in Madison County and went to play in a tournament in Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky and lost the match. Bob raised one tobacco crop before he went into the U. S. Army in 1940. He spent five years in the Army during World War II. He had his training in Fort Bragg, North Carolina and was sent to Africa where he served under General George Patton. He served in the Ninth Division all thru the Battle of Africa and then sent to Sicily for a short time. From Sicily he was sent to England then to Normandy. He was wounded in the battle for Germany and received the Purple Heart. Bob married Ethel Pauline Smith on December 25, 1945. They have one daughter, Linda Allen Tate. Bob is now eighty four years old. Pauline passed away in May of 2002." (ROBERT ALLEN TATE, written by his brother, James David Tate.)
