...Arthur Coleman Howard was born on July 12, 1874 to John Troublefield Howard and Rebecca Jane Moses in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and died July 19, 1950 in Shelbyville, Shelby Co, Tx. Buried at Shelbyville Cemetery. Married Mary Ida Mae Hill on Nov 1,1906, Shelby Co, Tx.
He never served in the military but his father, John served in the C. S. A. in Alabama;Co F, 50th Reg ALA, Alabama VOLS. (no dates).
His parents first moved to Texas from Alabama (no dates) and settled in Austin, TX where they bought land on the present-day site of the state capital in Austin. His father was unhappy in Austin so they then moved to East Texas, settling in Center, Shelby Co, Tx where he bought a large tract of land in "East Center". Arthur took care of his parents until their deaths, remaining single all the while. Later he married Mary Hill and they raised eight children.
In the early years of their marriage Arthur worked for the Cotton Belt Rail Road in Rusk County but Mary became homesick and they later moved back to Shelby County to be near her family. During the Roosevelt Administration they moved to Center where he worked for the WPA . Later they moved to Shelbyville where he became a farmer until his death in 1950.
