Mary Ida Hill

(26 Oct 1891 - 21 Sep 1971)

Idamae MARY Hill Howard was born in Louisiana to Jessie Robert Hill and Mary EMMA Pigg Hill Watson. They traveled west into Shelby County, Texas when she was young. Mary was married to Arthur Colman Howard and they farmed the land there in Shelby Co Texas. Mary was a homemaker most all of her life, and she was the oldest sister of my maternal grandfather, Coyle Brice Hill, Sr. of Houston, Texas and Shelby County Texas & B: CottonValley, Louisiana....
She is buried at Shelbyville Cemetery along with Arthur, son Albert, daughter Mamie, grandfather Jesse Hill, infant brother Robert Hill and grandparents Eliza and Robert Pigg.
Mary was a devoted wife and mother. During the Roosevelt Administration the WPA was created in which she worked in the "sewing room" where she sewed dresses for the little girls in the community. During the Flu Epidemic of 1918 she nursed the sick in the community all while being eight months pregnant. She later delivered a healthy baby girl, Ima Ruth on February 14, 1918. Then again during the Diphtheria Epidemic of 1925 she once again nursed the sick without becoming ill herself. In later years, after Arthur's death, she continued to set with the sick in their homes until she was up in her years, loving every minute of it. Since there was almost 17 years difference in their ages, she was a widow for 21 years....
